Judge who strikes out Atiku case against Buhari among those promoted

Recall that the National Judicial Council on Thursday, had recommended appointment of more judges for the Supreme Court and other various courts.

A statement by the Director of Information at the NJC, Mr. Soji Oye, on Thursday, stated that the council made the recommendation at its second virtual meeting held on August 11 and 12, 2020.

Consequently, according to dailypost, it has been revealed that the Chairman of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), Justice Mohammed Garba, was among those promoted to the Supreme Court.

Garba is the judge who dismissed Atiku Abubakar’s petition against President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term election.

The others are Justices Tijjani Abubakar (from the North-East Zone); Justice Abdu Aboki (North-West Zone) and Mohammed M. Saulawa (North-west Zone).

Recall that the supreme Court had in 2019, dismissed the appeal of the PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 general election, for being unable to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he (Atiku)was the one that won the election, also Atiku was unable to prove that President Buhari does not possess the academic qualifications required to become president.

Atiku and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in their petition, had relied on an unapproved INEC server, which he revealed as the source of election results which showed he (Atiku), actually won the election.

Conclusively, the NJC, in a statement signed by its spokesman, Soji Oye, also recommended 18 others for appointment as judges of other courts.

In your view, do you think Garba’s appointment is well deserved ?
